COACHES / RIDE LEADERS
We need as many ride leaders as possible—it’s only when we have enough Ride Leaders that we’re able to practice (the minimum ratios are 1:6 or 2:8 coaches to riders).
There are three levels of Coach Certifications in NICA. Each level requires an increasing amount of training, experience, and first aid certification.
Most of our Ride Leaders start as Level 1 by registering, taking some quick online training, and undergoing a background check.
Then we hope that by your second season, you’ll complete the requirements to move to Level 2. Being a Level 2 coach allows you to lead our practice groups—each ride group must have at least one Level 2 coach to practice.
The League has asked to keep our numbers for level 3 ride leaders/coaches to those in leadership positions. If you have not been asked by a Head Coach to fill in one of those positions, please focus on obtaining Level 2. If you wish to take a Wilderness First Aid Course for Level 3, you are welcome to, at your own cost.
Please reach out to our Coach Licensing Director, Dan Cunningham, with any questions on becoming a ride leader or leveling up your certification.
